How to Download Free Music on the BlackBerry PlayBook and BlackBerry 10

blackberry-z10

Update: NOW use this trick to download music directly on your BlackBerry 10 device! I have been using this trick the past couple of weeks on my BlackBerry Z10 and it actually works even better on the Z10 and is easier once you get the hang of it. Just make sure you are on the desktop version of Youtube on your Z10.

In this post I am going to explain an easy and free way to download music on your BlackBerry PlayBook. This is a very easy way to get pretty much whatever song you want on your PlayBook tablet it just takes a few simple steps and no software is needed and everything is done on your PlayBook itself.

This works with many internet connected devices though I do not know if it works on the Apple iPad I do know that this does not work on the Amazon Kindle Fire. All you need to do this is Youtube open on your PlayBook browser and a Youtube to MP3 converter. Just Bing or Google search for a converter or use the one I use which is Youtube-mp3.org and it works perfectly and involves no account or software download of any kind.

In Youtube just search for whatever song you want to download, try to not use any videos that have advertisements in the video anywhere. From there copy the URL of the video you are watching, switch over to your Youtube-MP3 converter which you should leave open during this process. Paste the URL in the designated area and click the convert button, give it a second then when given the option click ‘Download’ and you will be prompted to save just as you would any other document or download so click ‘Save’.

After the song is done downloading you will see that the song is in your Music application on your PlayBook ready to play. So that’s it, it’s very easy to do and takes a shorter time than you may think to download plenty of songs using this method. Enjoy and leave a comment especially if you happen to try this on other devices and it works as well.

Note: These songs will download and go into your ‘Songs’ category and will NOT show in your ‘Artist’ category.

  1. Greetings from Colorado! I’m bored to death at work so I decided to browse your website on my iphone during lunch break. I love the information you provide here and can’t wait to take a look when I get home. I’m shocked at how quick your blog loaded on my mobile .. I’m not even using WIFI, just 3G .. Anyways, very good site!

    1. Hello Helvino, thank you for checking out my blog post I appreciate it! As far as the URL goes, are you using the pre-installed Youtube app on your PlayBook or going to Youtube.com in the browser? Cause you will need to go to Youtube in your browser not the app. Once you look for the video you want click on it, then the URL will be at the very top of the screen where you entered youtube.com (ex. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i4EkHAOufKU). If your top banner on your browser is minimized, swipe down from the top bezel and the URL will be there. Hold your finger to that URL (you might have to click the URL to highlight it then hold your finger to the highlighted URL) until the pop-up options appear and click copy. I hope that helps, let me know if you have any other problems!

    1. Hello Joanne, to copy the URL: Once you have the song you want to download playing in your browser (Touch your finger on the URL bar at the top of the screen, the URL bar should highlight in a shade of blue and your Keyboard should appear. Then touch and Hold your finger on the highlighted URL bar, after that a number of options should appear on your screen, choose the option Copy. From there go to the Youtube converter site and touch your finger on the Space right above the “Convert Video” button, now just Hold your finger to the screen on the Space like you did on the URL bar and a set of options will appear like before, all you do then is choose Paste then convert video and that’s it.) Also when choosing these songs on Youtube, the beginning of the Youtube video will have an Advertisement on some songs and some don’t. So just watch the intro of the video for the song you want and see if there is an advertisement or not. I hope that helps, let me know if there is anything else I can help you with or if any of that is a little confusing. Thanks for checking out my blog!

    1. Hello Sasha, sorry to hear that. Multiple times I have tried to use this technique and I have gotten that same message on the Youtube.mp3 converter site. The only thing I know of to do is to try converting that video/song at a later time, I know at one point for at least a day or so I couldn’t use the Youtube.mp3 converter at all because of that message but I have tried like a day later and it work perfectly. Hopefully you can figure out a way to get it working for you, maybe also try just closing the Youtube.mp3 converter site then reloading the page on your PlayBook. Hope it starts working for you!

    1. Hello Grace, I haven’t heard of that happening but I would first just make sure that you are checking your “All Songs” Selection within the Music App on the PlayBook and the songs should show up there also if you choose the “Artists” Selection these songs downloaded from Youtube will show as “(Unknown Artist)”. If that doesn’t help please let me know.

  9. Was working exactly as you said and I got 3 songs done. Now when i highlight url and hold downtown won’t give me the option to copy???? Just shows me 2 blue arrows. What happened???

    Like

    1. Hello Traci, you should be able to just position the 2 blue arrows on both sides of the URL and that should highlight the URL and if the option to Copy does not appear try to just touch down on the blue arrow, and if that’s not working hold your finger down on one of the blue arrows for a second and the option should appear. Please let me know if you this helps or if you have further questions or issues and we will try to figure it out.

    1. Hello Chloe, I’m not quite sure why the song would not show in your All Songs options in the Music application. Maybe if you are unsure, while the browser is open after downloading the song, swipe down from the top bezel and choose the “Downloads” option that is in between the “New Tab” and “Settings” options in the browser. Make sure that the song is completely finished downloading before closing the browser. The song is maybe not completely downloading? Hopefully you will be able to work through this issue, let me know if I can help in any other way.

    1. Hello Judy. You should be able to find your songs you download by going into the Music app icon on your PlayBook, from there you should find your songs in the All Songs category also in the Artists and Albums category you will find your songs in there marked as (Unknown Artist) and (Unknown Album). I hope that helps you! Let me know if there is anything else I can help with.

  14. Hi. I love that you explained each step of your technique so clearly. Thank you so much from someone who is trying to be current in the world of technology. I may be from an older demographic than others here. Love the bb and to listen to the first song sounded almost too good to be true, which was there with little or no frustration. Many thanks.

    1. Hey Eman, thanks for your comment and reading my post. Maybe try restarting your Playbook, or BlackBerry 10 device, and the songs may appear then. Otherwise you could look in your File Manager app and make sure it is under your music there, also make sure that the song being downloaded didn’t just stall. Let me know if you need anymore help!
